Michigan has made a big pickup for its 2026 recruiting class.

McHale Blade has committed to play for the Wolverines. The blue-chip defender shared the news on Monday after a recent return visit to U-M campus in Ann Arbor.

Out of Chicago (Illinois) Simeon High School, Blade is listed as measuring 6-4 and 245 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Blade is rated 4-stars, the No. 5 player in the state of Illinois, No. 21 defensive lineman and No. 169 prospect overall in the 2026 recruiting class.

Blade was widely recruited with 25 scholarship offers, drawing interest from coast to coast. Florida, Illinois, Georgia, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Mizzou, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Tennessee and Texas A&M were among the programs to show interest in Blade. He told Hayes Fawcett of On3 that his decision came down to Michigan, Notre Dame and USC.

With Blade on board, Sherrone Moore’s staff has now secured 8 commitments for Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class, which ranks No. 40 on the Composite. Fans can get a preview of what Blade brings to the program next year by checking out his highlights in the video below, via Hudl:
