How long will Purdue’s Jeff Brohm be out? Here’s the B1G’s protocol for coaches who test positive for COVID-19

Big news hit Purdue on Sunday, when the school announced that head coach Jeff Brohm tested positive for COVID-19. He was the first head coach in the B1G to have a positive result.

The news comes less than a week before the Boilermakers are scheduled to take the field for the first time in 2020, hosting Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 24. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.

When the B1G reversed its decision and decided to reinstate the fall season, it announced that part of the protocols would require student-athletes who test positive to sit out for a minimum of 21 days before being allowed to return to competition. However, coaches will not have wait quite that long, according to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic.

Per Auerbach, coaches will have to be in isolation for 10 days and can return at the end of that window if they’ve been symptom-free for a full day.

Still, this likely means that Brohm will miss the season opener against Iowa. However, if he’s able to return after that 10-day period, he should be permitted to return before Purdue’s Week 2 matchup against Illinois.
