ACC AD doesn’t see conference expansion ‘on the horizon’ for Power 5 leagues

When Texas and Oklahoma made the decision to leave the Big 12 for the SEC, there was anticipation that it would shake the current conference structure across college athletics. It appeared as though we were in store for another major conference realignment shift.

It doesn’t sound like that will be the case, at least according to Miami athletic director Dan Radakovich.

Although Texas and Oklahoma will boost the SEC up to a 16-league conference, there doesn’t appear to be any rush for the other Power 5 leagues to make any additional moves.

“I’m not sure that there’s a huge number of schools out there looking to move right now,” Radakovich told ESPN. “Maybe among the Group of 5 there’s continued movement, but I don’t see that as much on the horizon with the Power 5 schools.”

The Big 12 did extend offers to BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF to make up for the departures of the Longhorns and Sooners.

When the moves were announced, the ACC, B1G and Pac-12 worked together to form “The Alliance,” although all three commissioners denied it was a move made in response to the SEC powering up.

Conference realignment could still happen at any time, but for now, it appears the Power 5 leagues are content with their current status. That doesn’t mean things won’t change in the blink of an eye, though.
